Check whether your bank connections are working
On this page
If new bank transactions seem to have stopped, or you want to know a bank link still works, your AI can check every connection at once. This article explains each status and what to do next. For how transactions travel from your bank to your ledger, see how and when bank transactions arrive.
What you'll see
Ask your AI about your bank connections. For each connected bank it sees:
- the bank's name and its status;
- when the connection last synced;
- for each account, the earliest and latest dates the bank feed holds.
If an account's date range hasn't been measured yet, the range is empty until that account's next completed sync.
Accounts you added yourself show the status manual. They have no bank connection, so there is nothing to sync or fix. If you haven't connected a bank, every account shows as manual. The AI's check covers every ledger in your workspace.
In the web app, open Settings → Accounts. Each connected bank has a card labeled Synced via Plaid or Needs reconnect. Banks that were disconnected move to a collapsed Disconnected banks section, marked Frozen · still viewable & exportable. Accounts you added yourself sit under Added manually.
What each status means
- healthy: the connection works and nothing is waiting.
- stale: the connection works, and new transactions are waiting to be added to your ledger.
- needs_reauth: your bank stopped accepting the saved sign-in, which usually happens after a password change or a security update at the bank. Your AI gets a reconnect link to
/app/connect-bank?mode=update&item_id=…. - error: any other bank problem. Your AI sees the bank's message, or its error code when the bank gave no message.
- manual: an account you added yourself.
A connection that was disconnected, removed or revoked also shows error, with one of these messages:
connection removed or revoked — re-link the bank to restore itbank connection removed by account deletion — re-link the bank if you want it back
When more than one thing applies, a removed connection always shows error, and a sign-in problem shows needs_reauth even if new transactions are also waiting.
How to fix it
- Ask your AI to check your bank connections and tell you which ones need attention.
- healthy, but a purchase is missing: see recent transactions are missing.
- stale: open the web app, or ask your AI again in a few minutes. Your next session adds the waiting transactions. Your AI has no command to sync on demand.
- needs_reauth: open the reconnect link your AI gives you, or press
Reconnecton the bank's card in Settings → Accounts. See reconnect a bank. - error after a disconnect, removal or revoke: connect the bank again as a new connection. In Settings → Accounts, each bank under
Disconnected bankshas aReconnectbutton that starts a fresh connection. See connect a US bank. - error with a message from your bank: read the message with your AI. If it doesn't explain the problem, report a problem.

Your AI lists each bank with its status and last sync time. For a bank that needs a sign-in, it can hand you the reconnect link. If all your accounts were added by hand, it tells you no bank is connected.
Good to know
- Settings → Accounts flags only sign-in problems and disconnected banks. A bank with another error still reads
Synced via Plaidthere, and the page shows no sync times. Ask your AI for the full status. - Open an account in Settings → Accounts to see its
Connection statusrow. When the bank needs a sign-in, it readsNeeds reconnecting, with aBank sign-in needs attentioncard and aReconnect bankbutton. - After you reconnect,
needs_reauthclears at the next successful sync. - Other bank errors can stay on the status after the problem clears. If the last sync time keeps moving forward, the connection is still syncing.
- The time listed for a manual account isn't a sync time. Nothing syncs for those accounts.
- Bank linking is available for US banks only. If you can't connect at all, see can't connect your bank.
