Recent transactions are missing
On this page
A purchase you made today or yesterday isn't in your ledger. Usually it hasn't reached Pennyweight yet, or it's there under a different date or in a different ledger. This article walks through each cause and how to check it. For how transactions travel from your bank to your ledger, see how and when bank transactions arrive.
What you'll see
Your recent transactions stop a day or two before today, or a purchase you remember isn't listed when you ask your AI for it.
Why it happens
- Your bank hasn't reported it yet. Pennyweight gets bank transactions through Plaid, our banking provider. Plaid says it typically checks for new transactions one to four times a day, depending on the bank. Until Plaid has the transaction, Pennyweight has nothing to add.
- Your bank doesn't send pending charges. Plaid notes that not all banks provide pending transactions. With those banks, a card purchase appears only after it posts.
- It's waiting to be added. Pennyweight has collected the transaction, and your next session adds it to your ledger. When you ask your AI, that step runs in the background, so the row can land after the answer. While transactions are waiting, the bank's connection shows the status
stale. - It's dated the day it posted. A settled bank transaction carries the date it posted, which can be later than the day you paid. A search for yesterday alone can miss it.
- It's in another ledger. Bank transactions land in the ledger the bank was connected to. When you don't name an account or a ledger, your AI searches its active ledger.
- The connection needs attention. A bank with the status
needs_reauthorerrorneeds fixing before you rely on its feed. - Your plan has ended. New bank transactions stop being added until you reactivate. See when your trial ends.
- Your bank withdrew it. When a bank cancels a transaction, Pennyweight removes it from your ledger.
- The account isn't connected to a bank. Accounts you added yourself have no feed. They get transactions only when you or your AI add or import them.
How to fix it
- Ask your AI to check your bank connections and look for the purchase. Give it the merchant or the amount if you know them.
- If the bank shows
needs_reauthorerror, fix the connection first. See check whether your bank connections are working and reconnect a bank. - If the bank shows
stale, open the web app, or ask your AI again in a few minutes. Your next session adds the waiting transactions. - Ask your AI to search the past week by merchant or amount, rather than one day.
- Name the account or the ledger, so your AI searches the right place. See workspaces and ledgers.
- If the bank shows
healthyand the charge still isn't anywhere, your bank most likely hasn't reported it yet. Check again later. - For an account you added yourself, add the purchase by hand or import a statement. See add a cash transaction and import a CSV.

Yesterday's Daily Grind Coffee charge isn't showing up. Is my bank behind, or is it in there under another date?
What your AI tells you
Your AI reports each bank's status and last sync time, then searches your recent transactions for the purchase. It tells you the most recent matching charge it found and its date. If all your accounts were added by hand, it tells you no bank is connected, so nothing syncs.
Good to know
- There is no "sync now" command. Your AI can't pull from your bank on demand.
- Pennyweight doesn't check for waiting transactions on every AI request, only every few minutes.
- How far back your history goes depends on what Plaid can provide for your bank.
- If the same charge shows up twice, once pending and once settled, see the same charge appears pending and posted.
- Bank linking is available for US banks only.
