My export download link expired

If you open an export link from your AI and it no longer downloads your file, the link has expired. Export links last 120 seconds, about 2 minutes. Ask your AI for the export again and open the new link right away.

What you'll see

The link worked when your AI gave it to you, but opening it now doesn't save a file. This happens with any export your AI makes: transactions, the audit log, saved knowledge or a full backup.

Why it happens

  • The link is short on purpose. Anyone who has the link can download the file until it expires, and the file holds your financial history in plain text. A 2-minute window keeps a link that ends up in a shared chat from staying useful for long.
  • The timer starts when the file is made. Pennyweight builds the file and the link together. If you read the rest of your AI's reply first or come back to the chat later, the 2 minutes may already be gone.

How to fix it

  1. Ask your AI for the same export again. Say what was in it, such as the account, dates and format.
  2. Open the new link as soon as your AI shows it.
  3. If you want to know the deadline, ask your AI when the link expires. Pennyweight gives it the exact expiry time with every export, in UTC.

Each request makes a new file and a new link. The old link stays dead. For the full list of what you can export, see export transactions or the audit log.

Good to know

  • A download in progress finishes. The deadline is checked when the download starts. A large file that starts before the link expires keeps downloading. If the download breaks and you retry after the deadline, it fails.
  • You can open a link more than once until it expires.
  • Backups work the same way. A full backup also comes as a 2-minute link. If it expired, ask for a new backup. To restore a backup, your AI doesn't need the link: for 48 hours after the backup, it can restore it by reference. See back up and restore.
  • Web report exports have no link. The Export CSV button on a report in the web app builds the file in your browser and saves it straight to your device, so there's nothing to expire. See built-in web reports.
