Undo an import
On this page
If an import went into the wrong account, flipped the signs, or repeated a statement you'd already brought in, your AI can remove the whole batch at once. Nothing is removed until you confirm, and removed transactions can be restored for 30 days.
How to do it
- Ask your AI to show your recent imports. Each one lists the account it went into, the dates it covered and how many transactions it added.
Show me what I've imported recently.
- Tell your AI which import to undo and why. A reason is required, and it's recorded in your audit trail.
- Your AI previews the undo and asks you to confirm.
- Say yes. Your AI removes every transaction from that import.
Undo the import into my Rainy Day Savings account. It went into the wrong account.
What you'll see
The preview gives the number of transactions that would be removed and up to 20 of them as a sample. It also says they stay recoverable for 30 days. There is no confirmation code for an undo: your AI asks you, then removes the batch. See why your AI shows a preview before saving.
After you confirm, your AI tells you how many transactions were removed.
What an undo changes
- The transactions disappear at once from searches, balances and reports, and the account's balance is recalculated.
- The import leaves your list of imports.
- Transfer links are cleared on the other side. If a removed transaction was linked as a transfer to one that wasn't part of the import, that link is cleared, and your AI is told which transactions were affected. Links where both sides came from the same import, such as a purchase and its refund, are kept.
- The opening balance can be cleared. If an import set the account's opening balance and the undo leaves the account with no transactions, the opening balance is cleared too. An opening balance you set yourself after the import stays. One you set before it can be replaced by an import that brings its own opening balance, and then an undo that empties the account clears it. See set or correct an opening balance.
- You can import again. After an undo you can import the corrected file into the right account. Start from import a CSV export.
Bringing transactions back
Removed transactions can be restored for 30 days. After that they're gone permanently.
- One at a time. Your AI restores one transaction per request, by its id, and needs a reason. It comes back exactly as it was: same amount, category and notes.
- Keep the ids. Removed transactions don't show up in searches, and the undo preview names at most 20 of them. If you might want some back from a larger import, ask your AI to list the import's transactions before you undo it.
- The import entry doesn't come back. Restored transactions return without their place in your list of imports.
- A cleared opening balance doesn't come back. Set it again yourself if you need it.
- A transfer link to a transaction outside the import doesn't come back. The undo already cleared the other side, so the restore removes the restored transaction's link too, and your AI is told so. The transaction then counts in spending again, unless its category is a transfer category. To pair them again, see link the two sides of a transfer.
- A link inside the import comes back when you restore both sides. If you restore only one, it stays linked to the removed side, and your AI is told the last date you can restore the other. If that date passes, ask your AI to unlink it.
Good to know
- Undo covers one whole import. To remove a single transaction, see delete and restore a transaction.
- Balance off after an import? Undoing and re-importing is one fix. See balance looks wrong after an import for the usual causes.
- Duplicates only? If most of the import is fine, see find and fix duplicates instead.
