Correct a manual entry's amount or date
On this page
Typed $200 when you meant $20, or put a charge on the wrong day? Ask your AI to correct it. Pennyweight fixes the transaction in place: it stays the same transaction, with its category, tags and notes, and an amount fix updates the account's balance. This works on transactions you added by hand and on ones you imported.
How to do it
- Tell your AI which transaction is wrong: the merchant, the account and roughly when.
- Say what the right amount, date or currency is. For example: "That cash haircut should have been $20, not $200."
- Your AI finds the transaction, saves the correction and tells you what changed.
My latest Saturday Farmers Market purchase on Wallet Cash should be $35, not $25. Fix the amount.
Move my latest Parking Meter charge on Wallet Cash to the 3rd of that month.
What you'll see
Your AI confirms the change and names the old value. For the first prompt, the purchase is now $35 out of Wallet Cash instead of $25, and the Wallet Cash balance includes the new amount. For the second, the parking charge moves from the 9th to the 3rd. Both are corrections to the existing transaction, not new ones.
Good to know
- No preview. A correction saves straight away. If it's wrong, ask your AI to correct it again.
- Keep the direction. The corrected amount is saved with the sign your AI sends. Money out of an account is negative, so check that a fixed purchase still reads as spending.
- Bank-feed transactions are locked. Amount, date and currency can't be changed on transactions from a connected bank, because they mirror the bank's record. Your AI gets an error if it tries. See why you can't edit a bank transaction's amount.
- Split transactions. The amount or currency of a split transaction can't change while it's split, because the parts must add up to the total. Ask your AI to remove the split, fix the amount, then split it again. See split one charge across categories.
- Currency fixes keep the number. If you entered 5,000 as dollars but it was yen, correcting the currency gives ¥5,000. A currency fix doesn't convert the amount. A transaction in a currency other than the account's is not added to the account's balance; it shows as a separate amount for that currency. To fix the amount and the currency together, give both. See fix foreign-currency amounts that look 100x too large.
- Date moves. If a deleted copy of the same transaction already sits on the new date, the move is refused and the transaction stays where it was.
- Every correction is logged. Your AI gives a reason for each change. Each correction is one entry in your audit trail, and amount and currency fixes also record the old and new values.
- Shouldn't exist at all? Delete it instead of correcting it. See delete and restore a transaction.
