Teach Pennyweight how your money works
On this page
Say you run a small design studio and also own a rental property. Your statements show names like Juniper Design Co and Corner Hardware, but only you know that Juniper is your main client and the hardware runs are repairs on the rental. Tell your AI once and Pennyweight saves those facts as knowledge for the right ledger, where your AI can read them in later conversations.
New to Pennyweight? Start with how Pennyweight works.
How to do it
- Decide which ledger each fact belongs to. Knowledge is saved per ledger, so studio facts go in your studio's ledger and home facts in your household ledger. If your business doesn't have its own ledger yet, see run several businesses in one account.
- Ask your AI to remember the facts, and name the ledger. Pennyweight saves each note to the ledger your AI names. When your AI searches that ledger's transactions, the most relevant notes come back with the results.
- Pin the decisions that never change. Ask your AI to pin a merchant to a category. If your AI later changes a single transaction from that merchant to a different category, Pennyweight stops the edit and your AI must check with you first. This only works when the pin is saved under the merchant's name in the exact form Pennyweight uses for it. A bulk edit that changes many transactions at once isn't checked against pins. What your AI remembers explains pins in detail.
- Use a rule to change categories. A note never changes a category. To file a merchant's transactions, ask your AI to create a rule. The rule sorts that merchant's new transactions as they come in, and your AI can apply it to the transactions you already have. Not sure a rule fits? See rules or a one-time cleanup.
- Check what your AI knows. Ask it what it knows about a ledger. It reads that ledger's knowledge and rules. You can also open Knowledge in the web app.
Remember in my Household ledger that Corner Hardware purchases are repairs on my rental property. Just save the note. Don't change any categories or make a rule.
Remember these facts for my Studio ledger: Juniper Design Co is my main client, and Coworking Hub is the desk I rent for the studio. Then tell me what you know about how my Studio ledger works.
What you'll see
For the first prompt, your AI saves a note about Corner Hardware in your Household ledger and confirms it. Your Corner Hardware transactions keep the category they had.
For the second, your AI saves both facts in your Studio ledger, then reads the ledger back to you: Juniper Design Co is your main client and Coworking Hub is your studio desk. It may also describe how Studio's transactions are categorized today. None of them change.
In the web app, Knowledge shows a card for the ledger you have open, with its number of assumptions and rules and the date it was last updated. To see another ledger's card, switch ledgers. The card appears once your AI has saved a note or a rule in that ledger. Open a card to see each entry, marked as your assumption or an AI assumption, with its confidence, and any rules and notes the ledger holds.
Good to know
- Knowledge stays in its ledger. A note in Studio doesn't apply to your Household ledger. Facts about you that hold everywhere, such as how you like answers, belong in your AI profile.
- Your AI can save what it notices. Those entries are saved as its own observations, at no more than 90% confidence, so they are never pins. An observation saved without naming a ledger goes to the ledger your AI is working in, so ask your AI which ledger it used.
- Pennyweight doesn't learn on its own. Categorizing transactions doesn't add knowledge. Your AI adds entries when it saves a note, an observation or a rule.
- Rules skip pinned merchants. Rules leave a pinned merchant's transactions alone, both as new transactions come in and when your AI applies them. For those, ask your AI to change the category directly.
- Removing a pin needs your confirmation. If your AI tries to remove a note you pinned, Pennyweight stops it until you confirm.
- The web app shows knowledge but can't edit it. To add, pin, correct or remove a note, ask your AI.
