Review what your AI changed
On this page
Say your AI spends the week tidying your books: categorizing charges, importing a statement, deleting a stray entry. On Friday you want to see what it did, and why, before you rely on the numbers. Pennyweight keeps an audit log of your AI's changes, usually with the reason it gave, so the review starts with one question.
How to do it
- Ask for the week's changes. Ask your AI to list every change from the last 7 days and why. Your AI needs a date range to read the log. Each change comes back with its time, what changed and the reason recorded.
- Narrow it down. If the list is long, ask for one kind of change, such as only imports or only deletes. If you use more than one AI app, you can ask for the changes one app made.
- Look closer at one transaction. Ask why it has its category and who set it. Your AI can show every category it has had, who set each one, and the reason where one was recorded. See find out why a transaction has its category.
- Fix what you disagree with. Ask your AI to put it right. See "Putting things right" below for each case.
- Keep a copy if you want one. Ask your AI to export the audit log as a CSV or JSON file. The download link lasts about 2 minutes, so open it right away. See export your data.
The prompt below makes one change first, so you can see how a fresh change and its reason show up in the list.
Change my most recent Zipline Rides charge to a category called Rideshare, then list every change made to my books in the last 7 days and why.
Show me only the imports in my change history from the last 7 days, with the reason for each.
What you'll see
For the first prompt, your AI confirms the Zipline Rides charge is now in Rideshare. It then lists the week's changes, newest first, so the Rideshare change comes first with the reason your AI gave. Earlier entries follow, such as imports of account history and transactions added by hand, each with its reason. An import adds one entry for the import itself plus one for each transaction it added, so a single statement can fill a page of the list.
For the second prompt, your AI lists only the imports, each with its time and the reason recorded for it.
Putting things right
- A wrong category. Ask your AI to change it. If your AI set that category recently, Pennyweight usually holds the change until you confirm it. Why your AI asks "are you sure?" explains the check.
- A transaction that shouldn't be there. Ask your AI to delete it. You can bring it back for 30 days. See delete a transaction and restore it.
- A delete you didn't want. Each delete is logged with the transaction's id and the reason, so your AI can find it in the log and restore it within 30 days.
- A bad import. Ask your AI to undo the whole import. It previews the batch first, and the removed transactions can be restored for 30 days. See undo an import.
On the web
The AI activity page in the web app shows recent changes to individual transactions in the ledger you have open. Each row shows the action, the reason, the time and a link to the transaction. A row can also show who made the change: "by You", which includes changes your AI made through your connection. It doesn't show which AI made the change. Budgets, account changes and the import entry itself don't appear there, though transactions an import added can. For the full week, ask your AI.
Good to know
- Reads aren't logged. Searches, reports and balance checks leave no entry. Most changes are logged, usually with your AI's reason.
- One log per ledger. Your AI reads the log of the ledger you have open. To review another ledger, name it. Changes that aren't about one ledger, such as creating a ledger or updating your AI profile, are in a separate workspace log; ask your AI for it. See how your AI's changes are logged.
- Long weeks come in pages. Your AI reads the log in pages of up to 500 entries, 50 by default. On a busy week, ask it to keep going until it reaches the start of the range.
- Missing today's changes? If your AI gives the end of the range as a plain calendar date, changes from that day can be left out. Ask it to read the log again with no end date.
