Choose which ledger your AI works in
On this page
Your AI works in one ledger at a time, called the active ledger. Ask it which ledger that is, and switch it when you want to work on a different part of your money. For how ledgers fit into your account, see workspaces and ledgers.
How to do it
- Ask your AI which ledger it's working in. It can also list all your ledgers and mark the active one.
- Ask it to switch to another ledger by name, for example your business ledger.
- Keep talking. Questions about transactions and rule requests now use the new ledger whenever you don't name one.
- To ask about a different ledger once, without switching, name that ledger in your question.
Which ledger are you working in right now? Then switch to my business ledger.
Switch to my Lisbon ledger.
What you'll see
For the first prompt, your AI names the ledger it's in, then confirms the switch and says it's now working in your business ledger.
For the second, if you have no ledger by that name, your AI tells you so and stays where it was. It can't switch to a ledger that doesn't exist. To make one, see create a ledger.
What the active ledger affects
- Transaction questions. When you don't name a ledger or an account, your AI searches the active ledger. Naming an account searches that account's ledger instead.
- New transactions don't follow it. A transaction your AI adds goes into the ledger of the account it's added to.
- Rules. New rules belong to the active ledger unless you name another, and listing your rules shows one ledger. See rules belong to a ledger.
- Budgets, alerts, categories and the activity log. Each of these belongs to one ledger. When you don't name a ledger, your AI reads them from the active one, and new budgets and alerts go there.
Good to know
- Each connected AI has its own active ledger. Switching in one AI doesn't change another AI you've connected.
- It's separate from the web app. The ledger switcher at the top left of the web app only changes what the web app shows, and your AI's choice doesn't change the web app. The web app remembers its choice per browser tab.
- The choice stays with the connection. Pennyweight saves it on your AI's connection, not on one chat. It lasts until that connection ends. See manage AI access.
- A new connection starts in your default ledger. Each time you authorize an AI, its active ledger starts at your default ledger, "Personal". Ask it to switch again if you work somewhere else.
- Switches are logged. Each switch records the ledger you left and the one you moved to. See every AI change is logged with its reason.
- Demo ledgers. Your AI can switch to a demo ledger once it has finished loading, and it tells you the data is fictional. See workspaces and ledgers.
- If you delete the ledger your AI is working in, your AI reads your default ledger and refuses changes until you switch. Ask it to switch to another ledger. See delete a ledger.
