Connect your AI
Pennyweight runs as a remote MCP server — a secure connection your AI assistant adds once, then uses to read your ledger, sort transactions, and answer questions in plain English. Your AI talks to Pennyweight; it never touches your bank, and it never holds your encryption keys.
The one link you need
Everyone uses the same server URL: . Your account is bound when you authorize the connection (sign in + two-factor + passphrase), not by the link itself — so the URL is safe to share, but the access is yours alone. The grant lasts 30 days of active use and you can revoke it any time.
Pick your assistant
- Claude — the smoothest path. Works in Claude on the web, the desktop app, and mobile (added once, syncs everywhere), plus Claude Code. Recommended.
- ChatGPT — supported via custom connectors on paid plans, with Developer Mode turned on.
- Gemini — limited today. Google’s Gemini app does not yet let you add a custom server; the only working path is the Gemini command-line tool. See the guide for the honest current state.
- Grok — supported via Grok’s Bring-Your-Own-MCP connectors on web, iOS, and Android (paid tiers).
- Any other MCP client — Pennyweight is a standard remote MCP server, so it works with any MCP-compatible AI. The universal setup is the same three steps every time.
What your AI can do once connected
- Read and query your transactions, accounts, and balances.
- Categorize, split, and link transfers — every change records why it was made.
- Build reports, run tax summaries, and explain what changed.
- Digest a statement (PDF or CSV) you share in chat and add the transactions to a ledger — see importing without a bank link.
What it can never do
- Move money — no transfers, payments, or bill pay. Ever.
- See your passphrase or your encryption keys.
- Change your passphrase or recovery code (those stay in the web app).
Managing access
You can disconnect or revoke Pennyweight from your AI client at any time. See manage & revoke access for how, per client. You can also copy your MCP link and review your connection from Settings → Connect your AI in the app.
