Change or cancel your subscription
On this page
You change or cancel Pennyweight subscriptions in the web app, under Settings → Billing. Each ledger has its own subscription, so you cancel each one on its own. Cancelling never deletes your data.
For prices and the trial, see plans, pricing and early access. How subscriptions work across several ledgers is in billing when you have more than one ledger.
How to do it
- Open the web app and go to Settings → Billing. Or ask your AI to take you to billing: it gives you a link to that page.
- To cancel one ledger's subscription, find the ledger under Billing by ledger and select Cancel subscription. It opens Stripe's cancel page for that ledger's subscription, then returns you to Billing.
- For your default ledger, the plan card below the list also has Manage subscription. It opens Stripe's billing portal. The portal's back link returns you to Settings → Billing.
Pennyweight's terms say you can cancel at any time under Settings → Billing, or by emailing hello@pennyweight.ai.
Your AI can't change or cancel a subscription. Billing and payment-method changes happen only in the web app. See open the web app from your AI.
When the buttons appear
- Cancel subscription shows on a ledger's row while that ledger has a subscription, including one you started during your free trial. After you cancel, the button goes away. Once your trial is over, the row then reads "Subscription ends" with the date; during the trial it keeps reading "Free during early access".
- Manage subscription shows on your default ledger's plan card once your default ledger has a subscription. Before that, the card shows the monthly and yearly choice instead.
- A ledger without a subscription shows Subscribe monthly and Subscribe yearly on its row. A demo ledger reads "Demo · free" and has no buttons, and the subscribe buttons are hidden while a payment dispute on the ledger is open.
Ledger names are never sent to Stripe. To cancel the right subscription, use that ledger's own Cancel subscription button.
Cancelling
Per Pennyweight's terms:
- You can cancel at any time in the web app under Settings → Billing. You can also cancel by emailing hello@pennyweight.ai.
- Cancellation takes effect at the end of the period you have already paid for. You keep access until then.
- Cancelling never deletes your data.
Deleting a paid ledger, or your whole account, ends its subscription early and refunds the unused part of the current period, prorated. See delete a ledger.
What you'll see
- While a plan runs, that ledger's row reads "Subscribed", or "Last payment failed" if its last payment didn't go through. Your default ledger's plan card shows its current plan and whether it bills monthly or yearly.
- When a ledger's subscription ends, that ledger becomes read-only. You can still view and export everything in it, and delete the whole ledger. Adding or changing data in it is paused, and your AI gets a message saying the ledger is read-only when it tries to change something there. Your other ledgers aren't affected. See this ledger is read-only.
- If you cancel during your free trial, the ledger stays fully usable until the trial ends.
- Billing offers the subscribe buttons again for that ledger. Checking out from there starts a new subscription and restores full access.
- Pennyweight doesn't send its own email when a subscription is cancelled.
The full lifecycle, including what happens when a trial ends, is in when your trial or plan ends.
Good to know
- Payment problems. If a renewal payment fails, Billing shows a notice headed by that ledger's name: "The last payment for this ledger's subscription didn't go through. Update your card in Manage subscription to keep it active." The notice has its own Manage subscription button. See your payment didn't go through.
- Price changes. Per the terms, a price change takes effect no sooner than 30 days after Pennyweight notifies you by email, and never within a period you have already paid for. If you don't accept a new price, cancel before it takes effect.
- Cancelling is not deleting your account. Your data stays, read-only, after the plan ends. To remove your account, see delete your account.
- Export first if you're leaving. Exporting works on every plan state. See export your data and full backup and restore.
